London, 1 October 2017 — The Alexandria Trust, through Al-Fanar Media, and with support from the British Council, brought three Lebanese professionals who work with Syrian refugees to the UK to speak at several universities to help raise awareness about the situation of Syrians in Lebanon and to see if such visits could be expanded as another way of providing information to donors, universities, and other interested parties.
While the hope was that the tour can result in raising awareness of the situation of Syrians in Lebanon, it has also revealed that many students and faculty members are eager for actual engagement, from volunteering to setting up partnerships and applying for grants. The tour also helped show that powerful UK—Arab world partnerships can be created when grass-roots non-governmental organisations connect with UK universities that share their interests and expertise.
