LBS Consulting Club develops business model for Trust's translation venture

London, 5 January 2015 – The London Business School Impact Consulting Club - the student led arm of LBS which organises their field projects - has developed a business model and plan for the Alexandria Trust's translation venture by examining and developing options for generating ongoing revenue to enable an ambitious programme in Arabic translation to become sustainable over time. Leaders of the LBS consulting team worked on the translation project for three months.

The Trust's project addresses the issue that, while the humanities and social sciences are taught in Arabic in universities across the Arab region, teachers lack too many of the texts taken for granted in western universities because they are not available in Arabic editions.

This is the second initiative of the Alexandria Trust, an organisation founded by Arabs and registered only two years ago to contribute to restoring world class education across a region in which education standards and rankings are commonly low and, in some instances, continuing to fall.

The objective of the venture will be to develop over time a sustainable business in Arabic translation in the humanities and social sciences. To achieve this, the Trust will address the need to grow the available population of highly competent translators into Arabic through initiatives in recruitment and training; develop systems of accreditation to ensure that the highest standards are maintained; and design a business model which brings sufficient revenue into the business to allow it to grow.

The London Business School Impact Consulting Club exists to grow students' and clients' capacity to create positive, world-changing impact. Each year, the club forms teams of MBA, EMBA, MiM, MiF, and Sloan students who complete high-impact strategy consulting projects for not-for-profits and non-governmental organisations across the world. Experienced consultants gain experience managing teams and developing client relationships, while aspiring consultants can acquire the consulting skill set and see what the job is all about.
