London, 30 April 2013 – The Alexandria Trust announced this week that Shadi Arafa has joined the London team as Operations Manager starting Monday, April 29.
From 2002 to 2011, Shadi was Special Aide to the Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Dr Ismail Serageldin, with whom he worked from the opening of the institution through its development as a major Egyptian and international facility. He subsequently came to London as a Chevening scholar to earn a master’s degree in journalism, completed last September.
“I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Shadi Arafa to the role of Operations Manager with the Trust,” said Executive Director David French. “Shadi has an unusual range of skills and background and I very much look forward to our having the additional experience and capacity he will bring to the Trust's small secretariat.”
“Having previously worked with a visionary who oversaw the rebirth of the fabled Library of Alexandria, I know well the hard and arduous work it takes for visions to take shape,” said Shadi. “I feel honoured to be joining the family of the Alexandria Trust and I look forward to working with the team in building the organisation and watching over its operation.”
